Yoga Jam | Ashtanga Remix english

One London writer described this class as an “ashtanga re-mix”. Yoga Jam is a Yoga class devoted to the spirit of improvisation. We will find new and exciting ways to energize our practice by exploring new
variations and unique ways of combining them. By weaving the theme of vinyasa through new and familiar poses, we will open the door to spontaneous and fun exploration! We will close the class with soothing chants as well as kirtan, to open the heart.

Every breath you take english

Pranayama  (or yogic breathing) is an ancient practice in yoga that allows us to access our energy bodies through various breathing techniques. These practices can be subtle, but potentially life altering! The yogis in their ancient wisdom and through countless hours of practice and observation discovered that everything in our physical, mental and emotional realm is reflected in our breath. They also discovered that by focusing on specific practices that affect the breathing, transformation on many levels can be achieved!

It’s hip to be square Ron & Marla english

Our access to deeper yoga poses is often limited until the area of the hip is opened in a balanced manner. Commonly used hip openers can often have the undesirable effect of de-stabilizing the sacrum unless integrity in the pelvic area can be maintained. This not only alleviates pressure to the knees but allows us to find symmetry in asymmetrical poses such as: janu shirshasana, ardha baddha paschimottanasana and on through to eka pada shirshasana.

Shanti Pulse Vinyasa Class Ron & Marla english

This class is set to the Swaha (Marla and Ron’s kirtan band) recording of “Shanti Pulse”, a 1 hour and
40 minute piece of music that uplifts and inspires the practice. In shanti pulse, peace chants weave their way through electro-acoustic ambient grooves, while Ron and Meenakshi blend elements of Ashtanga and Vinyasa Yoga into a transformative experience. The blend of prayer, pulse and trance-inducing spaces take us on a journey to find the breath and ride it into both an earthy and transcendental experience.

Ron has studied with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and Sharath both in India and North America and was one of the first Canadian teachers to be authorized by Pattabhi Jois. Along with his studies with his Pranayama teacher Sri Sudhir Tiwari, Ron has also completed an Advanced Pranayama training with Sri O.P. Tiwari from the Kaivalyadhama Institute in Pune, India.

In addition to regular classes at Downward Dog, he conducts workshops and teacher trainings in Canada, the U.S., Europe, the U.K. and Asia, and is becoming a familiar face at various conferences around the world.

Ron is one of Canada’s top teachers, approaching teaching in an inspired, informed and non-dogmatic way.  He places the needs of the students ahead of the demands of the practice.  While continuing to teach and practice the ashtanga vinyasa system as a foundation, he endeavors to blend tradition with innovation, and to balance precision with grace.  Students will find his refined approach to practice both challenging and rewarding.

Ron is also an accomplished musician and composer and performs with his partner Marla Meenakshi Joy under their group name “Swaha” (
