RON REID & MARLA MEENAKSHI JOY Sept 27-29,2024

Our dear teachers RON REID and MARLA MEENAKSHI JOY are finally coming back to KARMA Cologne. These two were our first yoga teachers and we are forever grateful. What an honor to have them back at our studio for several workshops and classes. Open to all. Whether you are a teacher or a student. We welcome you all.

FRIDAY Sept 27,2024

18-20 Uhr (6-8 pm) * “YOGA JAM/ASHTANGA REMIX”:  Followed by a kirtan with Swaha

One London writer described this class as an “ashtanga re-mix”. Yoga Jam is a Yoga class devoted to the spirit of improvisation.  We will find new and exciting ways to energize our practice by exploring new variations and unique ways of combining them.  By weaving the theme of vinyasa through new and familiar poses, we will open the door to spontaneous exploration.

This class is set to the Swaha (Meenakshi and Ron Reid’s) recording of “Shanti Pulse”, a 1 hour and 40 minute piece of music that uplifts and inspires the practice.  In shanti pulse, peace chants weave their way through electro-acoustic ambient grooves, while Ron and Meenakshi blend elements of Ashtanga and Vinyasa Yoga into a transformative experience.  The blend of prayer, pulse and trance-inducing spaces take us on a journey to find the breath and ride it into both an earthy and transcendental experience.

SATURDAY Sept 28,2024

10-12 : *”SURYA/CHANDRA YOGA FLOW (Solar/lunar yoga flow)”;

This class helps to balance the energies in the Surya and Chandra nadis (Solar and Lunar subtle nerve channels), creating a unified flow of energy and consciousness. By immersing ourselves in moment to moment awareness, we can allow our energies to rise and fall with the ebb and flow of heating and cooling vinyasa. Our journey moves from: Stamina building standing poses to strengthen the physical, Hip opening poses to allow the stagnant emotions to release, and Restorative/Yin poses to create a deep un-winding and un-minding to the psyche.

14-16 Uhr : “PILLARS OF STRENGTH (ARM BALANCES)”;

Arm balances help us to develop the strength, stamina and focus to truly energize our practice.  By embracing the work in exhilarating arm balances (such as headstands, handstands, and forearm balances) we will feel a shift towards a stronger, healthier, more confident and more stable experience in our practice. Come and build your own pillars of strength!

16:30-18:30 : HIPS & TWISTS”:

A lot of poses, as well as everyday activities, require us to be open in our hips.   The hips are also the “seat” of emotions. By understanding and finding preparations that allow us to specifically focus on this area and release it, we can move to a deeper awareness in our bodies and in our practice, and release stress in the spine. Twists rotate the spine and stretch the muscles of the back. This helps to restore and retain the spine’s natural range of motion, and helps us to “return to homeostasis.

SUNDAY Sept 29,2024

10-12 Wake Up Backbends: * “BEND WITHOUT BREAKING”– back-bending basics (all levels)

Finding our way in backbends can be challenging.  By using principles of leverage, energy in backbends can shift from a broken flow to a continuous flow.  We will learn how to “support” backbends in our bodies to create balance and control.

13:30-15:30 : Pranayama, Restorative & The 5 Koshas of Yoga – HOW DEEP IS THE WELL?

In our effort to deepen our yoga practice it is worthwhile to consider that there are many layers to our practice.  In yoga, these layers are referred to as “kosha’s “(sheaths)’” or the 5 bodies..  The sheaths are the ways in which we come to understand the world and harmonize it with the innermost Self.  The key to developing a deep and satisfying practice is by unifying these layers and incorporating them into our physical practice.

16-18 : CHANT INTO BLISS!:

Come and delve into the world of Sacred Sound!  In this class we will explore ancient sacred sounds of the language of Yoga…Sanskrit! Focussing on the meaning, finding a way to personally connect to the mantra’s (sankalpa), and proper pronounciation, we will explore the healing and enlightening vibrations together of some traditional chants…to transform our consciousness, and lead us into the state of meditation, the state of Bliss! Culminating in a deep healing Yoga Nidra practice.

For all levels, no previous experience necessary! Chants are recorded for take-home practice.
